The emergence of CBD as an effective treatment for a range of conditions is on the increase. Despite that, there have been very few human trials, which could accelerate its use as a mainstream treatment option and help millions of people. CBD, an extract from the hemp plant, affects neurotransmitters in the body’s endocannabinoid system. This effect is shown, in many studies, to help reduce chronic pain and inflammation. It is already being used widely by people, like in drinks from Live Black Rain. Still, it seems that CBD has many more benefits, and can treat severe conditions in which conventional medicines have failed.
Epilepsy conditions range in severity. Many types can be treated with conventional medication. However, disorders such as Dravet Syndrome that don’t respond well to anti-epileptic drugs; there is yet no answer. In the absence of viable medication for severe epileptic conditions such as Dravet Syndrome, patients can be left to suffer extreme seizures, sometimes many in one week, that can be extremely serious. The seizures can affect mental and emotional wellbeing or even cause death, but CBD can help.
A study was conducted called: Trial of Cannabidiol for Drug-resistant seizures in the Dravet Syndrome, which involved 120 children with the condition. In addition to their regular anti-epileptic medication, the patients were also given an oral solution of CBD. Some were given a placebo. It was found that CBD was indeed effective at treating intractable epilepsy. The results showed that patients given the CBD solution experienced a reduction in the frequency of seizures than those given the placebo. The study is backed up by countless stories the world over of the powerful effect CBD can have on epileptic conditions.
Using CBD for epilepsy is a serious matter. Epilepsy can be life-threatening, and drug interactions with CBD are possible. Always consult with a physician before using CBD for epilepsy, especially when the patient is a child.

Several studies have shown that CBD, or CBD/THC, can be effective at treating the symptoms of cancer conditions and the side effects of cancer medications. Conventional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy can be effective at treating the disease. Still, they come with many side effects, and often the symptoms return post-treatment. Side effects include nausea, vomiting, weight loss, and cancer pain, which can’t always be treated with conventional drugs.
Studies such as Multicenter, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study of the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of THC: CBD extract and THC extract in patients with intractable cancer-related pain, it has been demonstrated that CBD can control cancer pain. In the first study, a group of 177 patients experiencing cancer-related pain was given a CBD and THC combination. This was on top of a mostly ineffective opioid treatment. The patients given the CBD/THC combination reported that their pain had been significantly reduced.
In the second study, CBD is shown to reduce the side effects of cancer treatment medications such as nausea and vomiting. It involved 16 chemotherapy patients whose symptoms were unresolved using conventional medicines. Those patients who received the CBD experienced better control of their symptoms than the control group. It also offered protection against delayed chemotherapy-induced nausea. While the CBD combination may not be the whole answer to pain relief in cancer patients, these findings suggest that it can work well in conjunction with conventional medications to reduce symptoms significantly.
Anxiety And Depression
Most people are familiar with emotional anxiety. The feeling of unease and worry that occur from time to time in certain situations. But many kinds of anxiety can range in intensity and effect. Sometimes it has a cause, other times it’s a complete mystery. Experts think anxiety is related to particular neurotransmitters in the brain. For those with severe anxiety disorders like SAD or social anxiety disorder, life can be an everyday struggle. Severe anxiety like this goes beyond a flutter of nerves before a big speech. This anxiety is more crippling; it’s more likely to prevent someone from leaving the house. Anxiety and depression are closely related. One contributes to the other in many ways, but they may also be connected at a chemical level.

CBD has been shown in controlled studies to restore this imbalance at a chemical level and relieve symptoms enough for people to function. Cannabidiol reduces the anxiety induced by simulated public speaking in treatment-naïve social phobia patients, which is one such study with notable results. Here 24 patients with SAD participated in the CBD trial. Half of the patients were given the CBD treatment, while the other half were given a placebo. The patients were then asked to take part in a public speaking event. The patients who received the treatment reported much lower stress and anxiety levels than expected.
Multiple sclerosis is a lifelong condition that affects the brain and nerves. It is a progressively crippling disease with symptoms such as fatigue, difficulty walking, vision problems, muscle stiffness and spasms, problems with balance and coordination, also problems with thinking, learning, and planning. The condition can not be cured, but medications and treatments can ease the symptoms. CBD is one such treatment option, and studies are ongoing into its efficacy.
One review called: Oromucosal delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol/cannabidiol for neuropathic pain associated with multiple sclerosis: an uncontrolled, open-label, 2-year extension trial, was able to prove that CBD can be effective at controlling the symptoms of multiple sclerosis. Sixty-six patients were divided into two groups, one of which received the CBD/THC treatment, the other a placebo. The results showed an overall reduction in pain and improved symptoms, including neurological pain not well treated by conventional medications – such as opioids.
Since the emergence of CBD treatments, many people have benefited without really knowing why. More studies and trials such as these are essential to understanding more of the science behind how the therapy works, specifically for particular conditions. More science will mean fewer government restrictions on CBD and more opportunities for people to benefit from active properties.
